Debate
about the Middle Pleistocene roots of our species has been
eclipsed by louder arguments over Homo sapiens' emergence,
especially in Europe. Very little has been published which
directly compares the state of our knowledge in the two key
continents, Africa and Asia. This timely volume begins to
redress the balance. It brings together views of key researchers
actively working in these areas, both palaeoanthropologists
and archaeologists, some with wide ranging reviews, others
with thought provoking theories and suggestions for the direction
of future research. As a serious snapshot of the state of
our knowledge at this critical period in time it will be a
useful asset to anyone seriously teaching human origins at
undergraduate and postgraduate level.
